I think it is a nice idea to use a forum topic about the gear you use for your music production and/or DJing. It is meant that we can discuss about it and also give advices to help each other.
I use several software and equipment for my activities. While I just use software for all my music projects STAHLSCHLAG, Fundustrial, In Tenebris and Stiminal, I have some "old" gear to perform my music live.
My main DAW is Renoise: https://renoise.com/
I love to use Renoise because it support just the way I think. I started using trackers end of the 90s to write my first tracks and I never really changed it. I tried DAWs like Fruity Loops or Reaper but I always come back to Renoise to track but Reaper is my DAW for mastering releases. The new Renoise version also offers direct coding for music in LUA. Which is something I have to dig deeper into.
For the music production I really own way too many Synthesizers and effects. I tend to try something new with every track and release, so I can just tell a little about my favorites here.
Synths:
- Tone2 Synthesizers: I really love what they offer. I almost own all of them: https://www.tone2.com/ Icarus and Saurus are freaking amazing. While Icarus is an allround synth with kind of every synthesizing approaches, Saurus is a substractive Synth with great analog sound.
- u-he Synthesizers: u-he has some amazing Synths too. I own Zebra and Hive and I am really happy with their features. Looking forward a lot to Zebra3. Zebra is an allround synth too with semi modular features.
- Melda MSoundfactory: This is an awesome Synth (platform) with a lot of dedicated Synths. You can compare it to Kontakt in a way. Its is all modular and you can build your own synth, if you like. I totally enjoy their smart randomizers too. I like to use them to create starting sounds. This is what I use for my dark ambient stuff too.
- Mirage/Floe: This is maybe something not known well. https://floe.audio/ It is a great sample library with a randomizer too and has such creepy dark sounds. Perfect for dark ambient and my main synth for it.
Effects:
- Minimal Audio Rift: My favorite Distortion effect and because I like to make stuff crunchy, it always delivers. What I love about it is the amount of algorhithms to destroy stuff and the smart randomizer.
- Shaperbox3: Shaperbox is multi effect processor with such inspiring modules. It comes with filters, panning, crushing effect and more. Really great to get inspired for any effect or for transitions.
- Fuse Audio Labs Ocelot Limiter and Clipper: I have a lot of limiters and clippers but I think these are the best ones to use. Use a clipper before a limiter to shove off peaks and then limit it. It works pretty good.
Live-Equipment:
- AKAI MPD24: Old but gold. I own it for almost 20 years. I use it to trigger loops and samples in Renoise.
- Roland SP-555: And this is another great toy for live performances. It is a sampler with effects. I also use it for playing loops and sequences of certain tracks.
- Yamaha AG06: My audio interface for producing and live performances. Great sound and I also record vocals with it.
Ok, that's it so far. Please feel free to share your equipment too, if you want. Or just ask questions.
